⚔️ How to Defeat Every Chapter 5 Boss: Survival Guide & Tips

Chapter 5 features three major boss encounters — each requiring completely different strategies. This guide breaks down every phase, attack pattern, and survival technique.

⚠️ SPOILER WARNING: This guide contains major boss encounter spoilers for Chapter 5: Broken Things.

Boss Encounter Overview

Chapter 5: Broken Things features three distinct boss encounters, each designed around a different gameplay mechanic. None of them can be defeated through direct combat — this is a survival horror game, not an action game. Your weapons are your wits, your GrabPack, and your knowledge of each boss's patterns.

Boss #1: Huggy Wuggy — The Relentless Pursuer

Huggy Wuggy appears in two separate encounters during Chapter 5. The first is the Scrap Yard chase sequence at the chapter's opening. The second is a stealth-based projector room encounter in the mid-chapter.

Encounter 1 — The Scrap Yard Chase: This is a pure sprint sequence. You have no GrabPack and no tools. Sprint through obstacles, dodge falling debris, and reach the blast door. Key survival tip: never look behind you. Huggy's position is scripted — you cannot outrun him faster by watching him. Focus entirely on what is ahead.

Encounter 2 — The Projector Room: Huggy patrols a darkened room while you charge door panels. Use projectors to create light distractions — Huggy is attracted to bright light sources. Activate a projector on one side of the room, then sprint to your objective on the other side. You have approximately 6 seconds before Huggy loses interest in the light and resumes patrolling.

The projector room has three panels to charge. After each panel, Huggy becomes more aggressive and responds faster to sound. By the third panel, you must combine light distractions with crouch-walking to avoid detection. Running creates noise that overrides the projector distraction.

Boss #2: Lily Lovebraids — The Deceptive Host

Lily Lovebraids is the most unique boss encounter in the Poppy Playtime series. She does not chase you — instead, she traps you in her twisted tea party and forces you to play along while you search for an escape route.

Phase 1 — The Tea Party: You wake up at a dinner table with Lily, Poppy, Kissy, and other captives. Lily asks you to perform tasks: pour tea, pass plates, arrange dolls. These are simple interaction puzzles, but failing them (dropping items, choosing wrong objects) angers Lily. Three failures trigger an instant game-over as Lily attacks.

Phase 2 — The Escape: While completing tea party tasks, you must secretly interact with environmental objects to unlock the exit. Look for glowing stars on walls — pulling them opens hidden passages. The challenge is performing these actions while Lily is distracted by conversation with other captives. She periodically looks directly at you — freeze when her head turns toward you.

Phase 3 — The Chase: Once Lily realizes you are escaping, she pursues you through the Playcare ruins. This is a traditional chase sequence, but Lily is faster than Huggy and can climb walls. Use the Pressurized Hand to blast obstacles into her path, creating temporary barriers. Each barrier buys you 3-4 seconds.

Boss #3: The Prototype — The Final Terror

The Prototype encounter is the chapter's climax, taking place on a moving train in the underground tunnels. This is a multi-phase battle that requires both GrabPack hands and precise timing.

Phase 1 — The Train Exterior: The Prototype attacks from outside the train, swiping mechanical limbs through windows and doors. Move between carriages to avoid his attacks. When he reaches through a window, use the Pressurized Hand to blast his limb away — this staggers him for approximately 4 seconds, giving you time to activate the train's emergency acceleration levers.

Phase 2 — The Roof Battle: The Prototype climbs onto the train roof and begins tearing it apart. You must navigate the increasingly exposed carriages while dodging falling debris. Use the Conductive Hand to power emergency doors between carriages — they slam shut and briefly slow the Prototype. Pull three emergency acceleration levers across different carriages to reach maximum speed.

Phase 3 — The Collision: The train approaches a dead end. You must reach the front of the train, activate the final brake lever, and jump to safety through a side hatch before impact. The Prototype is right behind you during this entire phase. This is a timed sequence — you have roughly 30 seconds from when the warning alarm sounds.

The Prototype does not die from the collision. The train crashes, the tunnel collapses, but the Prototype emerges unscathed. This is scripted and cannot be changed — do not waste time trying to find a way to kill him.

Universal Boss Survival Tips

Audio is more important than visuals. Every boss telegraphs attacks with distinct sound cues 1-2 seconds before they strike. Play with headphones. Save your GrabPack charges for critical moments. Do not spam the Pressurized Hand — its cooldown can leave you defenseless at the worst time. Checkpoints are generous. If you die, you restart at the current phase, not the beginning. Do not panic — take a breath and approach each attempt methodically. On Easy difficulty, bosses are slower, attack less frequently, and timing windows are roughly 50% wider.
